Technical information

We create our pages manually using clean HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Parts of this website were prepared or edited with the aid of AI-based tools. All information was checked. Responsibility for the content, selection, assessment and final wording rests entirely with those credited above.

Our web server is located in Cologne, Germany. Our provider’s other servers and technical infrastructure, including its Hosted Exchange email server, are also operated in Germany.

History

Our website has evolved continuously since the mid-1990s. A handful of early CompuServe pages soon gave way to a website under our own domain, which was expanded, redesigned and technically rebuilt several times over the years. In this way, the first hand-coded HTML pages gradually evolved into today’s mobile-friendly, bilingual website.

Our website was one of the earliest translators’ websites and attracted recognition early on. In Translation Journal 8:4 (October 2004), it appeared as the first entry in the “Translators’ Best Web Sites” section.
